News -> Hundreds Of Art Works For Sale In Exhibition

Aberdeen Artists Society's exhibition offers professional, amateur and emerging artists the chance to contribute and exhibit alongside each other at the city's art gallery.

Last night society president Andy Dewar said an added attraction to the diverse range of works is the fact that most are available to buy.

He said: "A key point of the exhibition is that most works are for sale - more artists are now seeking to produce on a full-time basis and this exhibition provides an excellent opportunity for individuals, businesses and public organisations alike to assist this process with the purchase of work for personal enjoyment or to enhance the workplace."

The exhibition, the largest of its kind in the north-east, includes ceramics, glass constructs, printmaking and textiles as well as traditional art forms such as painting and sculpture.

Almost 700 entries were received for the exhibition, with the top 300 selected for display. Each of the artists involved has the chance of winning up to £5,000 if chosen as a winner by Professor Stuart McDonald, who will judge the entries.

Mr McDonald, head of Gray's School of Art, will select three pieces for awards, with winners announced tonight at a private viewing.

Money raised from the sale of catalogues and posters will be used to buy exhibits for the Grampian Hospitals Art Trust.

The exhibition will run from tomorrow until Saturday, June 2, at Aberdeen Art Gallery Schoolhill, Aberdeen. Opening hours are 10am-5pm Monday to Saturday and 2pm-5pm Sundays.

Admission is free.
