About
Art is essential for life, without art life will become tedious and boring. To avoid this, we have to struggle for. Above all, we must not replicate what has done before, but discover new worlds of imagination and put into appearance, what was not shown in earlier artwork in a similar manner. In this way, artists have worked since the old days.
Aside from canvas, brushes, strong colours, painting techniques and a lot of experience, natural curiousity and an irresistable desire is required.
I made pictures since I became aware of myself: Firstly with pencils, charcoal and water colours, later on, when my economic and social situation permitted it, with more professional materials and techniques. The only thing I further need is a small impetus that wakens the desire and talent which rests deep in my heart, to see things, others don’t see as easily.
My pictures try to seize the present situation, not what is seen with the naked eye, but the pictures hidden in the chaos surrounding us, which are mostly overlooked but comprise their own kind of beauty.
After a long struggle against the common trials and tribulations of life, I found the neccessary calmness for an intensive artwork only relatively late in my life. It was in the 1980s, when my creativity and the lots of thoughts and ideas bottled up inside myself erupted like a volcano. Within a rather short span of time I created not only a bulk of paintings but similtanuously wrote several books, including poems, thoughts and a novel. Both activities had stimulating effects on each other, which are still going on, even though my books are mostly out of print.
In this feeling of relief I now concentrate on the unsolved problems of our time. As early as in my student years I strongly wanted to direct peoples interest onto the ever growing environmental problems. So 'environment' is my main topic of the current periode. The second one is 'chaos'. I want to make it clear to my visitors, that this enormous stage, which we call 'world' or 'life' is not restricted to plain objects such as 'men', 'flowers', landscapes', 'legends' or 'history', but is composed of complicated systems, so unpredictable, one can easily get lost in.
From this point of view, there are lots of ideas, an artist can and has to concentrate on, if not satisfied with the roll of being a never stopping 'replication engine' .
Desire and talent are part of our nature. We have to get them out to light of the public. The creative power becoming apparent in the artist's work is decisive, whether the work will persist in the future or vanish.
